Winner and Senator-elect for Enugu East Senatorial District in the rescheduled March 18, 2023 election, Sir Kelvin Chukwu, a businessman and Knight of St John’s International, says he will run an open door policy as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Chukwu made this known in a statement he signed and made available to newsmen this morning.

In the statement “Ndi Nkanu East Senatorial District and The Obidient Family, Thank You Message”, the Senator elect who appreciates the Labour Party presidential candidate His Excellency, Peter Obi, “whose trail blazed the goodwill for this success”, says “it is a victory for justice”.

The statement reads in parts: “My good people and residents of Enugu East Senatorial District, Nkanu land, Amurri the land of my forefathers, friends, well-wishers and all you lovers of justice.

“It gives me great pleasure to reach out to you in appreciation for your unalloyed support all the way from the period of my emergence as the Labour Party Senate candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District to my election as a Senator-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“May I most humbly say a word of appreciation to His Excellency, Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of our great party, whose trail blazed the goodwill for this success.

“To the Labour Party leadership at all levels, and the Obidient family. Your catalytic resolve to usher in a new Nigeria polity made this victory possible, and I will never forget.

“I thank all of you who in one way or the other was part of this struggle. It is the struggle for the liberation of the people from the strong hold of those who want to hold them down, and who would go to any length to attain and keep political power. It is a victory for which a very great price was paid with the blood of Elder Barr Oyibo Chukwu. It is a victory for justice. A victory for the poor and down trodden. A victory of good over evil. A victory for our democracy and of a credible electoral process.

Thank You Message

“We must now begin the process of healing and reuniting the people who have spoken very eloquently through their votes. I will strive to be a Senator for all, including my opponents. I sincerely ask for your cooperation to succeed in the very big task ahead of us. I pray the Almighty God to grant me the renewed spirit to serve you well.

“I thank the electoral umpire INEC and urge that you continue in the trajectory of resisting to be compromised in delivering credible elections.

“I dedicate this victory to all of you, and the spirit of the hero of this our struggle, Elder Barr Oyibo Chukwu, my elder brother, who was murdered because of his struggle for liberation and social justice.

“I pray for the continued repose of his soul.

“A new Nigeria is possible”, the statement concluded.

Senator elect, Kelvin Chukwu

The younger Chukwu who was nominated by the LP to replace his elder brother, Oyibo Chukwu, assassinated and his body and that of his personal assistant, Sunday Igwesi, burnt to ashes, on February 22, 2023, three days before the presidential and national assembly election which he was projected to win convincingly, defeated former two time governor of Enugu State, former and incumbent Senator of the district, Dr Chimaroke Nnamani. Chukwu polled 69,136 votes to beat Chimaroke who garnered 48,701 votes.

Chimaroke Nnamani has congratulated Chukwu on his victory, saying that it was a reflection of the will of the people, and in tandem with the Obidient rave.

Nnamani who was suspended and later expelled by his party the PDP over alleged anti party activities had via his verified Twitter handle tauted before the election that nobody would defeat him in any election. GMTNews
