The Management of Aba Power Limited, a subsidiary of Geometric Power Group which supplies electricity to Aba Ring-Fenced Area comprising of nine out the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State has explained in a statement today, the reason behind the prolonged blackout in the state including the Ring-Fenced Area, saying that it is as a result of trade dispute between the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Abia State branch and the State Government.
Aba Power in the statement apologized to her customers for the blackout while adding that “the NLC ordered its members in the state, including members of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), to proceed on an indefinite strike since Monday, February 27, in solidarity with Abia State employees”.
Here is a full text of the statement: “Aba Power Ltd would like to apologize to its numerous customers for the current electricity blackout in its Ring-fenced Area since Monday, February 27, 2023. The whole of Abia State has been without electricity since this week, and not just the Aba Ring-Fenced Area.
“The outage is a result of the ongoing strike by the Abia State branch of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the welfare of serving and retired employees of the Abia State Government. The NLC ordered its members in the state, including members of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE), to proceed on an indefinite strike since Monday, February 27, in solidarity with Abia State employees.
“Aba Power implores both the NLC and the Abia State Government to quickly find ways of resolving the dispute immediately in the interest of our suffering people who find it very difficult to continue to depend on their own power generation due to high costs of premium motor spirit (PMS) and automotive gas oil (AGO).
“We will resume electricity supply to the Aba Ring-fenced Area the moment the NLC strike is called off.
