Minna – The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr Peter Obi has reassured Nigerians of his avowed commitment to rescue Nigeria from collapse.
Obi stated this in Minna the capital of Niger State while addressing mammoth crowd of LP supporters who had converged on the state capital for the party’s presidential campaign rally. He added that his administration’s turning around of Nigeria if he won the February 25 presidential election would begin with Niger State.
Noting that agrarian revolution would be the hallmark of his government, he assured that this would start with cultivating the land of Niger State.
“Our turn around of Nigeria Nigeria will start from Niger State because what we said we are going to do is to have agrarian revolution. We cannot start that revolution without cultivating the land in Niger State.
“If we cultivate that (the) land, you have job, you will have opportunity.
He blamed current and and previous administrations in the country for impoverishing Nigerians. “For 24 years, all Nigeria have done is to produce poverty, hunger, out-of-school children, misery and sickness. That is (these are) what we want to turn around.
“We are promising you that Niger State will be secured. We will fight insecurity because without security you can do nothing. The criminals are not more formidable than government, and this is because we don’t have leadership.
“We will use Niger State to show that Nigeria can feed itself (herself). All those factories that are dead will come back alive.
“Your gubernatorial candidate talked about power, I said in Chatham House that we will declare war on power. Nigerians will have power. You can not talk about production without power.
“We talked about education, no more ASUU strike. Four years would be four years. And we would make sure that all the schools closed in Niger State will be reopened. Nobody would be a refugee in his own country. No IDP camps and no one will be killed unnecessarily.
“Anybody that gives you money, take it and vote for us, it’s not their money. The money they are giving (to) you is your money they have stolen.
“Next (this) year’s election will not be on tribe, it will not be about ethnicity because there is no place a northerner buys bread cheaper. It won’t be about religion. There is no place Christians or Muslims buy bread cheaper. Show me a mosque where they buy bread cheaper I will go there and buy it. Show me a church where they buy it cheaper. Today they are killing priests, tomorrow they will start killing imams. We want to stop it. We want to stop the kidnapping. We want to stop the banditry. We assure you all those things will change.
“We will change Nigeria. It is not going to be by my turn. It is your turn to take back your country.
“We want you to vote people that have character, people that have competence. Datti and I are qualified to do this job. We know what it takes to change Nigeria.
He urged his audience to hold him responsible on account of his promises.
In another development the LP candidate for Enugu East/Isiuzo Federal Constituency in Enugu State Prof Paul Nnamchi has urged the electorates who registered recently but have not received their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) to go and collect them as they were now available at INEC offices in all the LGAs as well as designated registration centres across the country. He said the PVC was the power Nigerians have to enthrone credible people into elective offices.
Prof Nnamchi, a University lecturer, who made the call while interacting with his supporters at a town hall meeting in Isiuzo LGA of Enugu State, noted that the time was now to elect people who have the love of their constituencies and Nigeria at heart. He said that this year’s election was a test on the choice of leaders Nigerians would make. GMTNews (+2347048094066)
