Enugu State CAN Chairman, the Rev. Emmanuel Ede and members of NELCF

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, is working in synergy with Leaders of Nkanu East LGA in appealing to the Governor of Enugu state, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and the church, to support Nkanu East Local Government Area to produce the next governor of the State in 2023.

The appeal was contained in a statement by the Chairman of Enugu State Chapter of CAN, the Reverend Ositadimma Emmanuel Ede when he received the Nkanu East Consultative Leaders’ Forum, NECLF, who came to consult with him in Enugu.

The CAN Chairman who expressed appreciation for the coming together of the leaders including traditional rulers in soliciting for others’ support for Enugu State governorship, noted that God has already answered their prayers. Making reference to the Bible, 1 Sam Chapter 8:4, when the elders in a land in Israel came together to seek for a solution to the problem they had at the time, the Rev. Ede commended the Prof. Bart Nnaji led delegation said he fully understood the plight of their area, Nkanu East.

“I welcome you on this all important visit to me as the CAN Chairman Enugu State. I have been reading about your consultations and I am impressed with your actions. I thank all of you particularly, Prof. Bart Nnaji and Hon. Anayo Ede for your good (proper) handling of the consultations.

“I have not heard or read of any LGA in Enugu East Senatorial zone that has an assemblage of leaders united in soliciting for support among Enugu State stakeholders like Nkanu East.

“I fully understand the plight of Nkanu East people. I can confirm your claim that you do not have good roads. I have personally had bitter experiences on the roads. I know how terrible the Ihuokpara is, especially during the rainy season. Everybody feels this harsh reality.

“The whole world, and I believe, God has heard your cry. God is sure to do something positive for Nkanu East using your consultations. CAN Enugu State is behind you. We shall be praying for you, and your efforts shall never be in vain”.

While presenting the purpose of the forum, Prof. Bart Nnaji told the State Chairman of CAN that the challenges being encountered by people of Nkanu East were enormous that people from Idodo zone of the LGA, traverse through four LGAs before assessing the Local Government Council Headquarters at Amagunze. He said Nomeh, Mburubu, Nkerefi and other towns in that area also journey through at least two LGAs before going to their Council Headquarters.

Prof. Nnaji who noted that Nkanu East was the most underdeveloped LGA, added that if Ndi Enugu consents to one of their sons or daughters to become the governor of Enugu State in 2023, such an individual would build upon the strong peace foundation established by Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, and further ensure even spread of developmental projects across the state.

“Our traditional rulers, elders and leaders have come together in soliciting for support. This is to show you how important it is to us. This is why we are going to all other LGAs and leaders in Enugu State to see reason with us and allow the governorship ticket of the parties given to our sons.

“We do not have (good) roads, we do not have any state or federal presence. Our situation is difficult to explain in Enugu State as some communities in our LGA travel through two – four LGAs to access our Council Headquarters.

“We are the most underdeveloped LGA in Enugu State and this can be attested to by even all the government that have led the state since the return of present democracy in 1999.

“We are earnestly appealing to you as the head of the Christian body in Enugu State to please join with us in making this request.

“We are capable. We have sons and daughters who can deliver on the job and further develop Enugu State”. GMTNews
