Primaries for the election of PDP candidates for the to fly the Party’s flag at the February 26 Local Government Election held in the 17 LGAs of Enugu State, Saturday.

In Nkanu West LGA, the primary election was conducted at the local government party house, Agbani, where out of the 332 registered delegates, 280 representing above 80% were accredited to participate in the exercise.

Setting the tone of the business of the day, the Local Government Chairman of the Party, Hon. Uwabunkeonye Nnamoko, said the gathering was for party members to elect a candidate of their choice among three (3) aspirants namely Dr. Christian Nweke, Okonkwo J. Okorie and Uchenna Ejim. He advised the members to be orderly in carrying out the exercise.

The voting exercise which was preceded by accreditation of voters was conducted by a team of officials from the state, led by Mr. Festus Onyeka.

Conduct the election went peacefully and at the close of voting, Mr. Festus Onyeka while declaring the result, announced that out of the 280 votes cast, 10 were voided. Dr. Christian Nweke and Okonkwo J Okorie could not score any votes while 270 votes went to Mr. Uchenna Ejim who won the contest. Consequent upon this outcome, Mr. Ejim will fly the flag of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the forthcoming February 26 Local Government Polls in Enugu State.

In an exclusive chat with GMTNews, Uchenna Ejim expressed happiness to God for bringing him victory. He thanked the delegates for electing him their candidate in the forthcoming election.

Speaking further, he said “I feel elated by the confidence reposed in me by the members of my great party, the PDP, Nkanu West.

“I am indebted to them and if by the special grace of God I win the L.G. Chairmanship election next month, I will bring to bear, new ideas of doing things (in running the L G administration).

“I will complement the peace initiatives and developmental efforts of the Executive Governor of Enugu State at the L.G.A.

“I repeat, if God favours us, my party the PDP and we come out (emerge) victorious, I will bring the experiences I have garnered serving at various capacities within the political sphere, to bear on my position (as council Chairman). I will bring positive energy, inovation as well as modern trends in administration to bear. I will bring together progressive minds.

“I will (work on) bring(ing) unity which has been lacking in Nkanu West. I will be deliberate about it (bringing unity). I will build (plant) unity, water it and watch it grow, just like his Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is doing in Enugu State.

Speaking on the legacies of the present administration in Nkanu West, Uchenna said, “the incumbent administration in Nkanu West has done so well, and I was an Aide to the Council Chairman, Chief Nwabueze Nnamani.

“Government is not viable in doing many things ( to execute projects). Government (alone) cannot do everything. I will be conscious and deliberate in bringing about Public Private Partnership because this is the way to go. I am sure going to adopt that and look into other areas that the government has fared well and improve upon it (them),” he summarized.
