…As election did not hold at Ihiala Local Government

The Returning Officer for the Orumba North Local Government Area, Dr Michael Otu, on Sunday, said he nearly got killed when thugs attacked the Local Government collation centre during the Anambra Governorship Election held on Saturday.

Speaking at the State Collation Centre at the INEC office in Awka, he said that he was locked inside a room and teargassed by people he suspected to be political thugs.

He narrated that several score sheets were mutilated and he was forced to sign a fake result.

“I am lucky to be alive. I was teargassed and as a BP patient, I nearly lost my life. I was forced to sign a result which wasn’t collated by me. The Polling Officer, Comfort Omoroge, who worked with me, compromised.”

In her reaction, Comfort Omorhege said that Otu was confused and didn’t know the difference between casting of vote and collation of results.

“This man (Onu) has not been involved in an election and it is obvious from the way he behaved on the election day. His actions put us at risk,” she added.

Meanwhile the Returning Officer for Ihiala Local Government Area Dr. Umar Umar said there was no result for the LGA as no election took place by his judgement.

Professor Florence Obi, the State Collation and Returning Officer, after receiving reports and results from all the LGA, directed selected LGA returning officers to sum up results from all the LGAs excluding Ihiala and Orumba North for declaration of the final election results.
