COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE NATIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL, (NEC), MEETING OF THE ASSOCIATION FOR ETHICAL AWARENESS IN NIGERIA, (AFEAN), HELD ON THURSDAY, AUGUST 12, 2021, IN ABUJA.
Association for Ethical Awareness in Nigeria (AfEAN) is an assemblage of like-minded Nigerians who desire the best in the governance of the Nigerian state. The association works for the restoration of the economic, social, and political development of the Nigerian state. The membership cut across ethnic and religious divides. AfEAN is an affiliate body to the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP).
AfEAN had an extraordinary National Executive Council, NEC, meeting in Abuja on Thursday, August 12, 2021. The meeting deliberated on wide range of issues including the strengthening of the organization, the villainous state of Nigeria, and how a more cohesively formidable PDP as the main opposition party can rescue Nigeria from the brink of collapse.
The NEC made the following observations:
- Unity of Nigeria is threatened by lack of good governance as well as insecurity which has caused avoidable loss of lives and property among other things
- Agitations by various ethnic nationalities due mainly to injustice and inequity in economic and political opportunities
- That AfEAN need rejigging to brace up with the challenges of mobilizing the citizens ahead of 2023 general elections
- Gaps in the Board of AfEAN and the need for new appointments
- Strengthening of Peoples Democratic Party as main opposition party and make it viable to wrest power from the ruling party come 2023
The NEC made the following resolutions to redress the above observations:
- AfEAN to embark on a nationwide “RESTART NIGERIA “campaign to advocate for unity, equity, fairness, justice, progress, and free and fair elections in the country.
- Mobilize Nigerians from all divides to participate in the political process leading to 2023 election to enthrone credible and purposeful leadership with capacity to turn the economic fortunes of the country around using the platform of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP
- AfEAN to ensure that equity and justice are the foundation of all political and economic decisions in Nigeria through the PDP platform
- AfEAN to reach out to PDP national leadership and other critical stakeholders across the federation as a step towards realizing the aims and objectives of the association.
- New members were appointed and inaugurated into the Board of Trustees including the Secretary, and National Executive Council, (NEC) of AfEAN re-constituted to reflect the new appointments.
- Members of “RESTART NIGERIA Strategy Committee were appointment and inaugurated.
- Newly appointed State Coordinators were inaugurated with wide range of responsibilities, including cascading AfEAN vision down the Senatorial and LGA levels
- RESTART NIGERIA campaign to be launched starting from the Southeast Nigeria.
- AfFEAN to promote equity in the pollical space across the geo-political zones for geo-political balancing
