The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Federal Government to prioritise security and the welfare of Nigerians in 2026, stressing the urgent need for people-focused governance.

The party made the call in its New Year message issued on Thursday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Ini Ememobong.

Ememobong conveyed the PDP’s goodwill and solidarity with Nigerians, noting that the country continues to grapple with persistent insecurity and economic hardship.

He urged the Federal Government to recommit to its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property across the country.

According to him, the new year must mark a clear departure from unmet promises and signal a turning point defined by decisive, accountable and people-centred leadership.

“This new year must not be another chapter of broken promises, but a turning point marked by decisive and people-centred governance.

“The interests of Nigerians, not partisan considerations or political survival, must guide every action of government.

“Those entrusted with power are not rulers, but servants of the people, whose mandate must be exercised with humility and accountability,” he said.

Ememobong also called on the judiciary, electoral bodies, security agencies and other democratic institutions to remain firm and independent in the discharge of their responsibilities.

He warned that democracy cannot thrive where justice is replaced by arbitrariness and impunity is allowed to flourish unchecked.

Reaffirming the PDP’s position, Ememobong stated that the party remains committed to standing with Nigerians in the pursuit of an egalitarian society built on fairness, equity and accountable governance.

“We will continue to speak truth to power and stand with the people until governance reflects their will, welfare and aspirations. Happy New Year to Nigerians,” he added.
