Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has signed into law the ₦871.3 billion 2026 budget following its approval by the Zamfara State House of Assembly.

The governor assented to the 2026 appropriation bill on Thursday, shortly after lawmakers passed it at plenary.

Recall that on December 4, Lawal presented a proposed budget estimate of ₦861.3 billion for the 2026 fiscal year to the House of Assembly for legislative consideration.

Following deliberations, the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation reviewed the proposal and submitted its report to the plenary, recommending an increased total estimate of ₦871.337 billion.

Presenting the committee’s report, the Chairman, Mr Rilwanu Na-Gambo, said all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) appeared before the committee to defend their budget proposals.

Na-Gambo noted a significant improvement in the revenue performance of most MDAs and disclosed that the committee recommended an additional ₦8 billion for capital expenditure in the Ministry of Local Governments and Chieftaincy Affairs.

He also said ₦2 billion was added to the recurrent expenditure of the Zamfara State House of Assembly.

While passing the budget, the Speaker of the House, Mr Bilyaminu Isma’il, said lawmakers considered the strategic priorities of the Lawal administration, including security, agriculture, health, education and infrastructure.

According to him, the budget was structured to address the needs and aspirations of citizens across local government areas while ensuring equity, inclusion and balanced development.

The Deputy Governor, Mr Mani Malam Mumini, and other top government officials were present at the signing ceremony, alongside the Speaker of the House.

The 2026 budget is expected to drive socio-economic development and strengthen governance across Zamfara State.
