Kanu Heart Foundation Marks 25th Anniversary, Performs Over 700 Surgeries Since 2000

OWERRI, SSeptember 27, 2025 – The Kanu Heart Foundation has announced that it has successfully carried out more than 700 heart surgeries and treated numerous cases of heart disease since its establishment in 2000.

The Coordinator of the Kanu Heart Foundation World Heart Day Solidarity Walk, Mr. Mo Mohammed, disclosed this while briefing journalists in Owerri on Friday.

He credited the milestone to the commitment of the foundation and the visionary leadership of its founder, former Super Eagles legend and current Chairman of Enyimba Football Club of Aba, Mr. Kanu Nwankwo.

Mohammed explained that the foundation would also celebrate its 25th anniversary on Monday as part of the 2025 World Heart Day activities.

“The anniversary celebration will provide an opportunity for the foundation and all its supporters worldwide to celebrate its successes with a view to giving more to society,” he said.

Highlighting the lineup of events, Mohammed announced that a novelty football match would take place on Sunday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri, featuring Nigeria’s Super Eagles All Stars against Imo All Stars.

He added that the celebration would continue with a health walk on Monday from 7:00 a.m. themed ‘Hope For a Healthy Heart Walk.’

“Imo will play host to the likes of Victor Ikpeba, Obinna Nwaneri, Mobi Okparaku, and Emmanuel Amuneke among others. The 2025 World Heart Day will be celebrated by the foundation in grand style, as it coincides with our 25th anniversary,” Mohammed stated.

He further urged Imo residents, football lovers, and fans of Kanu Nwankwo (Papilo) to come out en masse and participate in the 5km solidarity walk. GMTNewsng
