Enugu Partners Tribu Ltd, Songhai Centre to Revive Agro-Industrial Project, Empower Youths

The Enugu State Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tribu Ltd. and the Songhai Regional Centre to revive and expand the long-abandoned Songhai Enugu Agro-Industrial Project.
Governor Peter Mbah, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, said the partnership would breathe new life into the project, scale up food production, and create sustainable job opportunities for thousands of young people in the state.
Mbah recalled that the project, first initiated in 2013, had remained incomplete and abandoned for years, depriving the state of the agricultural, training, and empowerment benefits it was meant to deliver.
“So as part of this administration’s commitment to rehabilitate moribund assets, the state government has approved this joint venture with Tribu Ltd. and Songhai Regional Centre to reactivate, rehabilitate, and operationalise the farm to optimal performance.
“We carefully drafted the MoU in collaboration with all parties, especially the Office of the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, to ensure full legal compliance and a robust governance framework,” he said.
The governor explained that Enugu State would provide the enabling environment, land use framework, and strategic oversight to guarantee sustainable and scalable impact in line with its agricultural and economic policy objectives.
According to him, Tribu Ltd. will serve as the financier and investor, mobilising capital and resources to bring the agro project back to life.
“Songhai Regional Centre will contribute the expertise, capacity building, and advisory services to implement best practices across farming processes and the entire agricultural value chain.
“The project will also establish a 25-hectare training and incubation centre to empower youths and women with leadership, technical, and entrepreneurial skills,” he added.
Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, Mr. Patrick Ubru, stressed that the project reinforces the state government’s agenda for food security, sustainable agriculture, and mass youth employment.
Founder of Songhai Regional Centre, Rev. Fr. Godfrey Nzamujo, described the project as a transformative platform that would unlock the state’s agricultural potential and drive community-based development.
Similarly, the representative of Tribu Ltd., Mr. Nnamdi Ozor, noted that the project would reduce youth migration abroad by providing viable opportunities at home while also cutting down the importation of food items.
Observers, however, urged the government to ensure timely completion of the Songhai Enugu Agro Project and other farm estates across the state. They argued that successful delivery of these projects would not only support youth empowerment and entrepreneurship but also secure Enugu’s place as a hub for agribusiness and food security in Nigeria.
