The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has extended warm greetings to Muslims across the country as they prepare to commemorate Eid-el-Maulud 2025, the annual festival marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

In his goodwill message, the President of CAN, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, said the occasion offers Nigerians an opportunity to draw inspiration from the values of humility, compassion, justice, and devotion to God, stressing that these principles go beyond religion and remain essential for building a society rooted in peace, fairness, and mutual respect.

Archbishop Okoh noted that at a time when millions of Nigerians are grappling with economic hardship, political leaders must demonstrate integrity and fairness in governance. According to him, leadership anchored on justice and compassion will restore hope, strengthen unity, and unlock Nigeria’s full potential for peace and prosperity.

He encouraged citizens to reflect on the Prophet’s teachings of love, equality, and peaceful coexistence, pointing out that these values remain critical in addressing the nation’s social and economic challenges. “Eid-el-Maulud is not only a moment of reflection for our Muslim brothers and sisters but also a call for all Nigerians to recommit themselves to values that can transform our nation,” he said.

The association further explained that Eid-el-Maulud is traditionally observed on the 12th day of Rabi’ al-awwal, the third month of the Islamic calendar. While the exact date varies depending on lunar sightings – this year expected to fall on September 6, 2025, in countries such as India – the essence of the celebration remains the same: to honor the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad and reflect on his message of justice and compassion.

Archbishop Okoh expressed hope that the 2025 celebration would inspire stronger interfaith harmony and encourage leaders to pursue policies that ease the burden on citizens. He added that Nigeria can only achieve lasting stability and development when its people and leaders alike uphold values that foster inclusivity, respect, and unity. GMTNewsng
