Former NBA champion and television personality Lamar Odom has been evicted from his upscale Los Angeles rental property after allegedly defaulting on three months of rent payments totaling $45,000. The eviction ruling was handed down by a California court in late April 2025, according to legal documents obtained by GMTNewsng.
Odom, 45, who earned more than $114 million over his 14-year NBA career and gained global fame through his high-profile marriage to Khloe Kardashian, reportedly failed to honor a $15,000-per-month rental agreement he entered into with Executive Recovery Group, Inc. in December 2024. Court filings show Odom did not pay for January, February, or March 2025, despite repeated notices.

“We gave Mr. Odom ample time and multiple reminders,” said a spokesperson for Executive Recovery Group. “This lawsuit was a last resort. It’s unfortunate, but we had to protect our interests.”
Once a key member of the Los Angeles Lakers’ championship runs in 2009 and 2010, Odom has experienced a tumultuous post-basketball life, including substance abuse issues and a highly publicized near-death overdose in 2015. While he later sought rehabilitation and even opened wellness centers in his name, this latest legal and financial trouble has sparked renewed public concern.
“Lamar is a cautionary tale,” said sports and media analyst Adewale Ojo. “He had fame, success, and money – but also trauma and addiction that were never fully resolved. It’s not just a personal failing. It’s a systemic gap in how we support athletes after the spotlight fades.”
Despite the eviction order, sources close to Odom insist he is not homeless. A longtime friend who requested anonymity told GMTNewsng: “Lamar is temporarily staying with close friends and taking steps to reassess his finances and next living situation.”
Experts are using the incident to underscore the importance of financial literacy for athletes and entertainers. “Sudden wealth requires guidance, planning, and emotional readiness,” said Dr. Stella Onyeama, a Lagos-based psychologist and financial wellness coach. “Athletes need strong post-career support to transition successfully.” GMTNewsng
