Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, has expressed confidence in the South East Development Commission (SEDC) as a key driver of economic transformation in the region. Speaking at a special reception in honor of the Commission’s pioneer Board and Management, held at Oranto International Airport Hotel, Enugu, the governor highlighted the need for strategic planning to unlock the vast economic potential of the South East. The event was hosted by billionaire businessman, Prince Engr. Arthur Eze, OFR.

Governor Mbah commended Prince Eze for his longstanding contributions to regional development, describing him as a pillar of economic advancement in the South East. “Beyond the celebration, this event provides a valuable platform for the Board and Management of the SEDC to refine their vision and strengthen their strategies for regional development,” he stated.

The governor emphasized the economic potential of the South East, noting that with a population of over 27 million people, the region has the capacity to build a unified market that fosters industrial growth and trade. “The challenge before the SEDC is to translate this vast potential into tangible progress—one that improves lives, creates opportunities, and strengthens our economic foundation,” he added.

Governor Mbah expressed optimism about the ability of the SEDC’s leadership, chaired by Senator Emeka Wogu with Honourable Toby Okechukwu as Secretary, to drive economic transformation. “I have no doubt that the pioneer Board and Management have what it takes to spearhead this long-anticipated economic renaissance,” he affirmed.

Commending the initiative, Professor Chukwudi Onovo, of the Nasarawa State University, described the establishment of the SEDC as a crucial step toward economic self-sufficiency. “The South East must take ownership of its development, and this Commission presents an opportunity to actualize our collective aspirations,” Onovo remarked.

Similarly, industrialist Dr. Sam Onyishi, CEO of Peace Mass Transit, underscored the importance of infrastructure and investment in driving growth. “The private sector is ready to partner with the Commission, but we need policies that will encourage industrial expansion and attract investors to the region,” Onyishi said.

The reception brought together key political and business leaders, reinforcing the urgency of a coordinated regional development agenda. Governor Mbah urged all stakeholders to rally behind the Commission, emphasizing that collective effort is essential for the economic resurgence of the South East. GMTNewsng
