Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has attributed the peace and stability enjoyed in the state to the robust collaboration between the government and security agencies. This assertion was made during the climax of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
According to Nelson Chukwudi, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Governor Fubara emphasized the divine help in achieving these feats, insisting that without the grace of God, human efforts would have been futile. “The peace we enjoy today is not just a result of our strategies but the grace of God,” he stated.
The Governor made these remarks after inspecting the guard of honour at the parade ground in Isaac Adaka Boro Park. The event saw Governor Fubara, alongside other dignitaries, laying wreaths in honour of fallen heroes and releasing pigeons to signify peace.
In his address, Governor Fubara underscored the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining peace and security. “Every Nigerian has a role to play in supporting our Armed Forces and security agencies to overcome the challenges confronting our nation,” he said.
He highlighted the state’s commitment to supporting security formations, adding, “We will continue to provide necessary support to ensure they can effectively discharge their duties.”
Governor Fubara also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for prioritizing the welfare of the Armed Forces. He pledged his administration’s loyalty and collaboration with the Federal Government to improve the welfare of security personnel.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s history of conflicts, Governor Fubara noted, “Our Armed Forces have been resolute, defending us through civil war, terrorism, and insurgency. Their bravery has safeguarded our nation’s integrity and sovereignty.”
He paid tribute to the courage of servicemen and women, stating, “Without their heroism, Nigeria would not be the country it is today. Their sacrifices ensure the freedoms and peace we often take for granted.”
In a show of support, Governor Fubara pledged N50 million to widows of fallen heroes to aid their economic activities and address family needs. “This gesture is a token of our appreciation for their sacrifices,” he remarked.
Acting Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Rivers State Chapter, ACC Kuu Aminkipo Promise, expressed gratitude for the Governor’s financial support. “Governor Fubara’s support has sustained our livelihoods and kept our wards in school,” he said.
The event highlighted the ongoing commitment of the Rivers State Government to the welfare of the Armed Forces and the families of fallen heroes, reaffirming the state’s dedication to peace and security. GMTNewsng
