The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has advised customers across its network to upgrade their prepaid meters by November 24, 2024, to ensure continued seamless service. This directive follows a global Token Identifier (TID) rollover, a standard update affecting all Standard Transfer Specification (STS)-compliant prepaid meters.
Emeka Ezeh, Head of Corporate Communications at EEDC, explained in an official statement that the deadline is necessary as STS prepaid meters will no longer accept new credit tokens unless they are upgraded. “We want our customers to act promptly to avoid disruptions,” Ezeh stated. “While their meters will continue to function with previously loaded credits, once those are exhausted, they won’t be able to add new tokens unless the upgrade is completed.”
EEDC has been preparing for the TID rollover since early this year, upgrading its vending system to “SuperEdge” in February to facilitate a smooth transition. Customers who have not recharged their meters since February will receive Key Change Tokens (KCTs) during their next recharge. These KCTs consist of three sets of 20-digit codes, which customers must enter sequentially to complete the upgrade.
For the upgrade process, Ezeh reassured customers that the procedure is straightforward and at no cost. “Simply punch in the first 20-digit code, press ‘enter,’ and repeat for the next two codes. The upgrade is automatic after that,” he detailed.
To prevent loss of any unused tokens, EEDC also advised customers to load all existing tokens onto their meters before entering the new upgrade codes. “Once a meter is upgraded, previously purchased tokens will no longer be accepted, and we cannot offer refunds for unused tokens,” Ezeh added.
Customers can recharge their prepaid meters through EEDC’s “EnergyPay” platform on its official website or via the EEDC Connect App. For further information or assistance with the upgrade, EEDC’s Call Center is available at 0208 4700 100.
Ezeh concluded by encouraging customers to act promptly, emphasizing that EEDC is committed to making the upgrade as smooth as possible. GMTNewsng
