The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has issued a call to all citizens who possess prepaid meters, urging them to update their meters before the approaching deadline in November 2024.

Without the meter update, users will face the unfortunate consequence of being unable to recharge their prepaid meters, as emphasized by the regulatory body.

NERC took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to emphasize that the meter update will not incur any additional cost for the users.

In order to facilitate this process, Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) are set to distribute free tokens to enable the smooth update of meters.

The post from NERC encapsulated the need for action, stating: “If you have a prepaid meter, it may be time for an update. From November 2024, you may not be able to recharge your meter. However, updating is easy and free. DisCos shall commence issuance of 2 free Key Change Tokens (KCTs) which will update your meter.”

The regulatory body also assured users that the meter update will not have any impact on the existing units stored in the meter or affect its regular functioning. GMTNews
