As PPSMB Inaugurates 5 Man Committee on Good Governance in Schools

Citizens and residents of Enugu State have been called upon to be alive to their civic responsibilities by obtaining their Permanent Voter’s Card, PVC, and ensure to exercise their franchise by participating actively in the current electoral process.

The call was made at the popular Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, during the flag
off of a keep fit exercise tagged “Unity Walk” organized by the Peter Mbah Support Group, PMSG, with membership drawn from the 17 LGAs and some Tertiary Institutions in the state.

In a brief remark, Hon. Sydney Okey Ede, Executive Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Council, said the exercise was proper as one has to be physically fit to be able to perform other duties.

The Council Boss who said that PVC awareness was part of the day’s activities, admonished that every person of voting age who had PVC should as a matter of responsibility, exercise their voting right during elections.

Earlier, the Director General of the support group, Emeka Ogbu-Nwobodo, said it had become necessary to embrace physical exercise, an activity that was generally accepted to the teaming youth as well as the elderly in the state. He said it was a physically fit person that would undertake other meaningful human activities.

The DG who enumerated reasons for the Walk to include physical fitness; endorsement of good governance in the state; sensitization of the people to obtain their PVCs and use same to vote during elections;
mobilization of support for the PDP Guber candidate in the state, Dr. Peter Mbah.

“We should see it as necessary to embrace physical fitness, that is why this unity walk is very important”.

“Our objectives for embarking on this are, physical fitness, endorsement of good governance in the state, sensitization of the people to obtain their PVC and using it to vote at elections, and garner support for our dear brother and boss, Dr. Peter Mbah, the PDP governorship candidate in the state, “.

The man who took charge of operations for the event, Dr Chukwuemeka Aroh, said the unity walk was organized by PMSG under the “DGship” of Emeka Ogbu. He added that a team from the FRSC would lead the Walk, while there was an ambulance services available in case of any emergency.

In an interaction with GMTNews reporter, the Deputy Council Chairman of Nkanu East LGA of Enugu State, Chief Martins Ndubuisi Agbo, thanked Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the peace in Enugu State, and leading the process that produced Barr Peter Mbah, the Enugu State PDP governorship candidate whom the unity walk is also mobilizing support for.

The Walk which caused traffic jam on major roads/streets of Enugu, started at Okpara Square and had participants walk the Enugu “big loop” of Presidential Rd – Obiagu Round-about, O’Connor street – Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium, Ogui Rd – Otigba Round-about through Bisalla road to Govt House Round-about, and terminated at Okpara Square.

All the Local Government Areas in Enugu State and Tertiary Institutions took part in the Walk.

The exercise featured show your PVC and win a prize, and other giveaways which was coordinated by Mr. Victor Mammel, to the excitement of lucky winners.

In another development, the Post Primary Schools Management Board, PPSMB, Enugu, Friday (yesterday) inaugurated a five (5) man “Teachers for Good Governance (TGG)” in all Secondary Schools in Enugu State for PVC sensitization.

The Chairman, PPSMB Enugu, Evangelist Favour Ugwuanyi who inaugurated the committee for Army Day Secondary School Awkunanaw Enugu through the school Principal, Mr. Benjamin Ugwuoke, advised the committee to ensure that all teachers in the school obtained their PVC. She also charged the committee to encourage students who have attained 18 years and above to register with INEC to get their PVCs.
