On Thursday (17/6/21), tomorrow, “Ndị Nkanu” spread across the 6 Local Government Areas that make up Enugu East Senatorial District, namely: Enugu East, Enugu North, Enugu South, Isi-uzo, Nkanu East, and Nkanu West, shall hold a (political) rally at Okpara square, to drum up support for the district or zone in the 2023 Enugu state governorship contest, and impress on the incumbent Governor, H E, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, that they have the capacity and capability to produce the next governor.
Ordinarily, this is a right step in the right direction as it would send a strong message/signal to other zones, and to the appropriate quarters about the poise of the Senatorial District to vie for and clinch the seat in 2023.
However, it seems that the organizers and some leaders behind the planning are already basking in the euphoric atmosphere of a false “foregone success,” that they ignored the critical aspect of the project, which is to have every LGA, component part and interest on board the planning and execution.
Outside of a seeming compulsive idea of having the venue populated by “my supporters, or ndi nke anyi,” the true effort in making the ultimate aim of the project a success, is lacking, as some of this who plan to attend are straining on the leash, and many others in the zone, as at the time filing this piece are as confused as ever about what is going on. One concerned inquirer asked “Hon. na so una go take am? E go work?” What his questions translate to mean is – Is that how you people plan to take the governorship? Will it work? He is not alone. Another raised the issue of venue, “If it is truly about Nkanu Ebuka, why take it away from Agbani, the headquarters of Nkanu land?”
Other questions that it may interest the organizers to know are –
- How are the 6 LGAs in the zone carried along in the planning and execution of the rally?
- Is the rally a test for who becomes the highest bidder among aspirants nursing governorship ambition from the zone?
- Is it a one Party or multi-party affair, if multi-party, how are the other parties involved?
- Your list of Guests of Honour in the public domain has names of 3 personalities representing 2 LGAs, Enugu South and Nkanu West out of the 6 leaving out Enugu East, Enugu North, Isi-uzo and Nkanu East LGAs, does this show fairness to the later?
Sorry to say, but this is stepping a wrong foot forward.
