Attakwu Akegbe community in Nkanu West, Enugu State, has endorsed President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah for second terms in 2027, citing infrastructure and development projects. The community also appealed for the unconditional release of detained IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu.
The people of Attakwu Akegbe community in Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu State have endorsed President Bola Ahmed toTinubu and Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for second terms in office ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The community also appealed to Tinubu to grant unconditional release to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, in the interest of peace and reconciliation.
The endorsement was announced on Saturday, October 24, during the Attakwu Akegbe Community Mega Rally in Support of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Peter Mbah, held at the community’s Civic Centre.
Speaking at the event, the traditional ruler of Attakwu Akegbe Autonomous Community, Igwe Greg Ugwu, said the endorsement was informed by the infrastructural development and other achievements recorded by the Mbah administration in the area.
Ugwu commended the governor for what he described as a strong commitment to community development, particularly through road construction and other infrastructure projects.
He assured the governor and the President that the community would mobilise support for them and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates during the 2027 general elections.
The traditional ruler also urged political parties and their supporters to conduct peaceful campaigns, respect democratic principles and allow voters to make their choices freely.
“Politics should be played according to the rules. There should be no violence. Allow people to vote freely, and I believe our people will vote for APC candidates,” he said.
Ugwu further appealed to Tinubu to consider the unconditional release of Kanu, saying such a decision would support efforts to promote peace and reconciliation.
“On behalf of traditional rulers, I appeal to our amiable President to release Nnamdi Kanu unconditionally. We are begging him to listen to our appeal,” he said.
In his welcome address, the President-General of the community, Mr Kingsley Nnamchi, described Mbah’s administration as people-oriented, noting that Attakwu Akegbe had benefited from several development projects.
Nnamchi identified the construction of the Amagu-Attakwu-Elf Ring Road, complete with culverts and drainage systems, as one of the major interventions that had improved transportation and supported economic activities in the agrarian community.
He also listed two smart schools in Akegbe Ugwu and cottage hospitals at Ekeagba and Ndiagu Attakwu among the projects he said had improved access to education and healthcare.
According to him, the projects had brought government services closer to residents and strengthened the community’s confidence in the state administration.
Nnamchi said the community had resolved to reciprocate the governor’s development efforts by supporting his re-election bid in 2027.
However, he appealed to Mbah to provide modern irrigation equipment for women engaged in dry-season farming to improve agricultural productivity, ease their workload and strengthen food security.
He also called for the reopening of the Attakwu Nyama sand excavation site, describing it as an important source of livelihood for young people in the community.
The President-General said reopening the site could create employment opportunities, generate revenue for the state and help address youth restiveness.
Also speaking, community leader and former Federal Commissioner in the Federal Character Commission, Mr Emeka Ani, described the turnout at the rally as evidence of grassroots support for Mbah’s administration.
Ani said his observations of the governor’s performance had strengthened his confidence in the administration’s capacity to deliver development projects.
“I have been in Abuja but what I have heard and seen about the governor’s achievements is marvellous. He has demonstrated capacity fully, and my endorsement is total and complete,” he said.
He urged residents to support Mbah’s re-election bid, expressing optimism that a second term would enable the governor to consolidate ongoing development initiatives across the state.
Responding on behalf of the governor, the State Commissioner for Chieftaincy Affairs, Chief Charles Egumgbe, commended the community for its solidarity and the large turnout at the rally.
Egumgbe assured residents that their requests and concerns, including those raised during the event, would be communicated to the governor for consideration.
He also urged the community to preserve peace and unity, warning against allowing political differences to create divisions among residents.
“I call on you all to translate this endorsement into votes during the 2027 general elections,” the commissioner said.
The rally highlighted the community’s stated support for Tinubu and Mbah ahead of the 2027 elections, alongside calls for further local development, improved agricultural support and measures to promote peace in the South-East.
