Osun lawmaker Abiola Awoyeye has strengthened education support in Ile-Ife by distributing uniforms, school bags and writing materials to 500 pupils.
A member of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr Abiola Awoyeye, has distributed school uniforms, bags and writing materials to 500 pupils in public primary schools across Ile-Ife.
Awoyeye presented the educational materials to the beneficiaries at the Oba Okunade Sijuwade Memorial Hall, Enuwa, as part of efforts to support children and ease some of the challenges affecting participation in basic education.
The lawmaker said the initiative was designed to contribute to the development of education in his constituency by providing pupils with essential materials needed for their studies.
According to him, access to basic school materials can help pupils attend school properly equipped and reduce some of the financial pressures faced by families.
Awoyeye urged the beneficiaries to take their education seriously and make proper use of the materials provided.
He also appealed to parents and guardians to support their children and wards by ensuring regular school attendance and encouraging them to use the learning materials responsibly.
The lawmaker described education as important to the development of children and the wider society, while calling on individuals, organisations and other stakeholders to support initiatives aimed at improving children’s access to quality education.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, one of the pupils, Blessing Adeleke, expressed appreciation to Awoyeye for the gesture.
Adeleke said the uniforms, bags and writing materials would assist the pupils in their studies.
The initiative adds to broader efforts by governments and other stakeholders to address barriers to basic education, including the cost of school-related materials and other expenses that can affect children’s participation in school.
