NiMet has issued a three-day rain forecast for Nigeria, predicting thunderstorms and moderate rainfall across several states from Monday to Wednesday, with warnings about strong winds and other weather hazards.

In its weather outlook released in Abuja on Sunday, September 27, the agency predicted varying weather conditions across the northern, North-Central and southern regions during the three-day period.
For Monday, NiMet forecast patches of clouds over the northern region in the morning, with thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall expected across most parts later in the day.
The agency said cloudy conditions would prevail over the North-Central region in the morning, with isolated thunderstorms and moderate rainfall expected later across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Benue, Kogi, Niger and Plateau states.
In the southern region, NiMet predicted cloudy skies, with chances of light rainfall over parts of Ebonyi, Enugu, Cross River and Akwa Ibom states.
It added that intermittent moderate rainfall was expected across most parts of the region later in the day.
For Tuesday, the agency forecast patches of clouds over the northern region, with morning thunderstorms and light rainfall expected over parts of Borno, Gombe, Bauchi, Yobe, Taraba and Adamawa states.

In the North-Central region, NiMet predicted cloudy conditions, with prospects of morning thunderstorms and light rainfall over parts of Benue, Kogi, Plateau and Nasarawa states.
It added that isolated thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall would occur across the region in the afternoon or evening.
For southern Nigeria, the agency forecast cloudy conditions and light rainfall over parts of Ebonyi, Cross River, Rivers and Akwa Ibom states in the morning.
It further predicted afternoon or evening thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall over parts of Ekiti, Osun, Ogun, Ondo, Oyo, Edo, Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi, Imo, Anambra, Lagos, Delta, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom and Rivers states.
On Wednesday, NiMet forecast patches of clouds over the northern region, with morning thunderstorms and moderate rainfall expected over parts of Taraba, Borno, Adamawa, Bauchi and Gombe states.
The agency predicted that thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall would affect most parts of the region later in the day.
For the North-Central region, cloudy skies are expected, with prospects of thunderstorms and light rainfall over parts of Nasarawa and Plateau states in the morning.
It said thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall were expected over most parts of the region during the afternoon and evening.
In the southern region, NiMet anticipated cloudy conditions, with chances of intermittent light rainfall over parts of the South-East and coastal areas in the morning.
However, intermittent moderate rainfall is expected across the entire southern region later in the day.
The agency warned that strong winds might precede thunderstorms in affected areas and urged residents to take necessary precautions to prevent damage and injuries.
It advised the public to secure loose objects around their homes and surroundings to prevent them from being displaced by strong winds.
NiMet also cautioned motorists against driving during heavy rainfall and advised residents to disconnect electrical appliances from power sockets during thunderstorms.
Residents were further urged to avoid standing under tall trees during thunderstorms to prevent injuries from falling branches or uprooted trees.
The agency also advised airline operators to obtain airport-specific weather reports and flight documentation from NiMet to support effective operational planning.
It urged members of the public to remain vigilant and regularly monitor weather updates from the agency.
The three-day forecast covers September 28 to 30, 2026, with rainfall expected at varying times and intensities across the country’s six geopolitical zones.
