Troops have rescued six FUDMA students and their driver after a kidnap attack in Katsina, with additional rescue and counter-kidnapping operations reported in Plateau and Niger.
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have rescued six female students of the Federal University Dutsin-Ma (FUDMA) and their commercial driver after kidnappers attacked their vehicle in Katsina State.
The victims were rescued along the Daye–Malumfashi Road in Danmusa Local Government Area on Monday evening, September 21, 2026, after troops responded to a distress call over an attack on a commercial vehicle travelling from Kaduna to Katsina.
According to the military, the swift intervention of the troops forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee the scene. The seven victims were rescued unhurt and subsequently underwent preliminary security profiling and medical evaluations.
They were later handed over to designated officials to facilitate their reunion with their families and school authorities.
In Plateau State, troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE also rescued two kidnap victims during separate operations in Mangu and Bokkos Local Government Areas, according to the operational report.
The report said troops responded to sporadic gunfire from suspected kidnappers at Panyam in Mangu, where they rescued an injured victim. The victim was evacuated to COCIN Hospital for medical attention.
At Fanga village in Bokkos, troops reportedly foiled another kidnapping attempt and rescued an injured victim after the suspected kidnappers fled on sighting the security personnel. The victim was evacuated to a clinic in Daffo, while efforts continued to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The troops also arrested a suspected criminal at Ganawuri in Riyom Local Government Area over an alleged attack on a family at Gonifal Guru.
Meanwhile, troops of Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD reportedly discovered and safely detonated an improvised explosive device along the Dekara–Masaka–Machan Geda–Baturen Daji road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The latest operations form part of ongoing military activities aimed at disrupting kidnapping and other criminal activities, protecting civilians and maintaining security along vulnerable routes and communities.
