John Ogbodo’s APC campaign tours Ozalla and Akegbe Ugwu, with stakeholders highlighting grassroots development and Governor Peter Mbah’s agenda.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign in Nkanu West Local Government Area has taken its message of continuity, grassroots development and alignment with Governor Peter Mbah’s development agenda to Ozalla, Akegbe Ugwu 1 and Akegbe Ugwu 2 ahead of the September 26, 2026 local government election.
The campaign team, led by the APC chairmanship candidate and incumbent Executive Chairman of Nkanu West, Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, received enthusiastic receptions across the three electoral wards, with residents, community stakeholders, support groups, dancers and masquerade groups turning out to welcome the delegation.
The tour provided another platform for APC stakeholders to canvass support for Ogbodo and other party candidates while highlighting what they described as the connection between Governor Mbah’s development agenda at the state level and ongoing grassroots interventions in Nkanu West.
At Ozalla, the campaign team was received by a large gathering of residents and supporters, with songs, dancing and cultural displays adding colour to the engagement.
Among those who spoke for the ward were the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Mbah on Mainstream Media, Hon. Dan Nwomeh, and Francis Aniwike. Their interventions centred on the importance of sustained development, effective representation and continued cooperation between the local and state governments.
The campaign subsequently moved to Akegbe Ugwu 1, where the message of continuity and grassroots representation remained central to the engagement.
Speaking for the ward were the Special Adviser to Governor Mbah on Special Duties, Hon. Sunday Nnamani, and the Managing Director of the Enugu State Investment Development Authority (ESIDA), Dr. Kenechukwu Nnamani.
The speakers joined other stakeholders in highlighting the significance of development-driven leadership and the need for communities to remain connected to the wider development programme of the state government.
Ogbodo, in his engagements with the communities, spoke about his administration’s development priorities and the importance of maintaining a productive relationship between Nkanu West and the Mbah administration.
One of the prominent figures at the campaign was Nwabueze Ugwu, Esquire, Chairman of the Governing Council of the Enugu State College of Education (Technical), ESCET, who joined other stakeholders in the engagement.
The former member of the Enugu State House of Assembly was among those who addressed the gathering at Akegbe Ugwu 2, alongside HRM Igwe Greg Ugwu, who also spoke for the ward.
The Akegbe Ugwu 2 engagement produced one of the most distinctive support displays of the campaign tour, with the 260 Legacy Solidarity (From Ward to Centre) standing out among the various support groups that received the campaign team.
The group is led by its founder, Dr. Amaka Stephanie Ngene, who is also the Board Chairperson of the State Technical and Vocational Education Management Board (STVEB).
The participation of the 260 Legacy Solidarity added an organised dimension to the Akegbe Ugwu 2 mobilisation, with the group identifying with the broader grassroots campaign around the APC and the development agenda associated with Governor Mbah.
The reference to “260” also resonated with one of the signature components of the state government’s development programme: the Smart Green Schools initiative across the state’s 260 wards.
For the Nkanu West campaign, however, the focus remained firmly local — the leadership of Ogbodo, projects and interventions within the council area, and the argument by APC stakeholders that grassroots administration should remain connected to the state’s development direction.
Ogbodo, in his engagements with residents and stakeholders, acknowledged the influence of Governor Mbah’s leadership and development initiatives, presenting his administration’s approach as one that seeks to complement the state government’s broader development programme.
The chairman also used the opportunity to interact directly with residents and stakeholders, listening to community concerns while highlighting areas where his administration says it has made interventions.
Across Ozalla, Akegbe Ugwu 1 and Akegbe Ugwu 2, the campaign was marked by strong community participation, with support groups, traditional displays and residents adding colour to the political engagements.
The latest tour forms part of the APC’s continuing campaign activities across Nkanu West. Previous campaign stops have taken the team through Agbani, Amurri, Amodu and several communities in Akpugo, with continuity, development and the relationship between the state and local government remaining recurring themes.
The presence of senior government officials, political stakeholders, community leaders and organised support groups at the latest campaign stops further broadened the political conversation around Ogbodo’s candidacy and the APC’s grassroots campaign structure.
With the election approaching, the campaign is increasingly taking its message beyond central rallies into individual wards, where candidates and their supporters are engaging directly with community stakeholders and residents.
At Ozalla and the two Akegbe Ugwu wards, the APC campaign sought to frame the September 26 contest around continuity at the local-government level and the relationship between Ogbodo’s administration and Governor Mbah’s development agenda.
For the party and its supporters, the remaining campaign days will provide further opportunities to take that message to communities across Nkanu West as the September 26 election draws closer.
