The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company has expressed readiness to deepen collaboration with ICAN on staff capacity building, professional training and knowledge development.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has expressed its readiness to deepen collaboration with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), particularly in staff capacity development, knowledge enhancement and professional training.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of EEDC, Engr. Vincent Ekwekwu, stated this on Wednesday when he received a delegation from the ICAN Enugu and District Society at the company’s corporate headquarters, Power House, Enugu.
The delegation was led by the Chairman of the ICAN Enugu and District Society, Mr. Emmanuel Anyim.
The visit was aimed at appreciating EEDC management for its support to the Institute over the years and formally presenting Anyim as the 19th Chairman of the ICAN Enugu and District Society following his investiture in July 2026.
During the visit, the ICAN delegation briefed EEDC management on some of the Institute’s planned programmes and areas where it would require the company’s support.
The delegation also expressed its willingness to facilitate training and capacity-building programmes for EEDC employees to enhance their knowledge and equip them with skills required to discharge their responsibilities professionally and effectively.
Welcoming the delegation, Ekwekwu congratulated Anyim on his emergence as chairman of the professional body and commended ICAN for its contributions to business growth and sustainability through the expertise and professionalism of its members.
He acknowledged the requests presented by the delegation and assured the Institute of EEDC’s readiness to support programmes that would further strengthen the relationship between the two organisations.
According to him, the relationship between EEDC and ICAN is mutually beneficial, as both organisations can leverage their respective strengths and expertise to create value.
Ekwekwu also briefed the delegation on developments in Nigeria’s electricity supply industry, highlighting the transformation of EEDC and the emergence of subsidiary electricity distribution companies following reforms in the sector.
He explained that the transformation had resulted in the establishment of state-focused distribution companies responsible for electricity distribution in their respective areas within the South-East.
In his remarks, the Group Chief Finance Officer of EEDC, Mr. Pauli Isiguzo, thanked the ICAN delegation for the visit and acknowledged the Institute’s contributions to the company, particularly in service delivery and revenue protection.
Isiguzo urged members of the delegation to continue to serve as ambassadors and advocates of EEDC, noting that the accounting profession remained critical to effective business management and sustainability.
“The good thing about ICAN and the accounting profession is that when it comes to business, you can’t do without ICAN members,” he said.
He disclosed that EEDC is the highest single private employer of Chartered Accountants in the South-East, underscoring the importance the company places on professional expertise and capacity development.
The Group Chief Finance Officer added that EEDC was also engaging investors interested in participating in the evolving electricity distribution space.
He stressed the need for strong professional capacity, sound financial management and continuous knowledge development as Nigeria’s electricity industry continues to evolve.
The proposed collaboration is expected to create additional opportunities for professional training and knowledge sharing between EEDC and ICAN while strengthening the capacity of personnel to respond to the changing demands of the electricity and business sectors.
