The Police Public Relations Officer in Borno State, ASP Nahum Daso, disclosed this on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in Maiduguri, attributing the peaceful celebration to early security preparations, strategic deployment and the cooperation of Muslim leaders and worshippers.
Daso said the command deployed about 150 police personnel drawn from four divisions within the Maiduguri metropolis to maintain law and order and provide security throughout the celebration.
He added that Muslim faithful complied with security measures and conducted themselves peacefully during the gathering.
“The Maulud celebration was successful. No ugly incident was recorded. This is largely due to the cooperation received from Muslim leaders and adherence to the strategies put in place by the command,” Daso said.
The celebration attracted thousands of Tijaniyya adherents to Madinatu Mosques in Maiduguri, where participants engaged in Dhikr, Salawat and continuous prayers in honour of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Sheikh Umar Dalori, an Islamic Tijaniyya scholar, also described the celebration as peaceful, saying participants travelled from several parts of Nigeria, including Bauchi, Kano, Sokoto, Kogi and Ilorin.
He added that worshippers also arrived from other countries, including Senegal, Mali, Ghana, South Africa and Cameroon.
Dalori described Maulud an-Nabi as one of the biggest annual gatherings for the Tijaniyya community, stressing that the occasion represents an expression of love, gratitude and spirituality rather than merely a commemoration of the Prophet’s birth.
According to the scholar, the celebration encourages Muslims to offer shukr, or gratitude, to Allah for sending Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as a mercy to humanity.
After leading participants in the recitation of Salatul Fatih and other Salawat, including “Allahumma Salli Ala Sayyidina Muhammad,” Dalori commended security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and hitch-free celebration.
“Alhamdulillah, we have not witnessed even a single accident,” he said.
The peaceful conduct of the Maiduguri celebration comes amid wider calls by Nigerian leaders during the 2026 Eid-el-Maulud observance for Muslims and other citizens to promote peace, tolerance, compassion and peaceful coexistence. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in his Maulud message, similarly urged Muslims to reflect on the virtues of Prophet Muhammad, including devotion, perseverance, tolerance, humility and selflessness.
