The Mmiri Oma Campaign Council has engaged APC ward chairmen in Nkanu East as the party intensifies grassroots mobilisation ahead of the September 26, 2026 council election.
The Mmiri Oma Campaign Council has intensified its grassroots mobilisation in Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, engaging the 14 APC Ward Chairmen ahead of the September 26, 2026 Local Government Council election and the 2027 general elections.
The strategic meeting, held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, focused on strengthening the party’s ward-level structure, deepening community engagement and ensuring that its programmes, achievements and campaign message reach residents across the communities of Nkanu East.
The Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) has fixed September 26, 2026, for elections into the 17 local government chairmanship positions and 260 councillorship seats across the state.
Addressing the Ward Chairmen, the Director-General of the Mmiri Oma Campaign Council, Hon. Prince Nwatu, thanked them for honouring the invitation and described them as key drivers of the APC’s grassroots structure.
Nwatu stressed that the ward chairmen have a critical role to play in taking the party’s message directly to villages and communities while mobilising residents ahead of the elections.
He also highlighted the impact of rural road projects under the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, noting that improved connectivity was bringing government closer to rural communities and making it easier for farmers to transport agricultural produce from farms to markets.
He cited improved connectivity between communities such as Ihuokpara and Ugbawka, saying the opening and rehabilitation of rural roads were changing travel patterns and strengthening links across Nkanu East.
According to him, the administration’s development efforts demonstrate an approach to governance that places communities and grassroots needs at the centre.
Speaking on behalf of the Ward Chairmen, their leader, Comr. Okeke A. Victor, expressed appreciation to the APC chairmanship candidate, the campaign council and its Director-General for convening the meeting.
Okeke welcomed the appointment of Nwatu as Director-General of the campaign council, expressing confidence in his ability to coordinate the campaign and lead the party towards victory.
He called for a 100 per cent victory for the APC from top to bottom, charging the Ward Chairmen to take ownership of grassroots mobilisation and communicate the party’s programmes, message and achievements directly to residents in their respective wards.
The meeting comes a day after the formal inauguration of the APC campaign organisation for Nkanu East, where party leaders also charged the campaign team to intensify grassroots engagement ahead of the September 26 poll.
Also speaking at the meeting, APC chairmanship candidate for Nkanu East, Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe, commended the Ward Chairmen for their commitment and described them as the “lions” of their respective wards.
Ogbuekwe urged the ward leaders to activate and mobilise youths across the 14 wards, stressing the importance of young people to grassroots engagement and effective electoral mobilisation.
He also assured the Ward Chairmen that he understands the needs of communities across Nkanu East, including roads, electricity, security and other essential infrastructure.
The candidate pledged that these concerns would receive attention under his leadership if elected.
Ogbuekwe emerged as the APC candidate for the Nkanu East chairmanship election after the party’s direct primary. He replaced incumbent chairman Sydney Edeh, who had completed his constitutionally permitted two terms.
The engagement underscored the growing importance of ward-level mobilisation as political parties prepare for the September 26 council election.
With the 14 wards serving as the campaign’s primary grassroots structure, the Mmiri Oma Campaign Council is seeking to strengthen its network, engage communities and consolidate support for the APC candidate ahead of the poll.
The council has also linked its current mobilisation efforts to the broader political engagement expected ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The campaign’s message from the meeting was clear: victory at the council election will depend heavily on sustained engagement at the grassroots, where ward leaders remain the party’s closest link to voters.
With the September 26 election approaching, the Mmiri Oma Campaign Council is expected to intensify ward-to-ward and community-level mobilisation across Nkanu East.
