Peaceland University, Enugu, has secured Council of Legal Education accreditation for its Law programme, clearing the way for students to pursue admission into the Nigerian Law School.

Peaceland University, Enugu, has secured accreditation from the Council of Legal Education (CLE) to run its Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) programme, marking a significant milestone for the three-year-old private university.

The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Leonard Ilechukwu, announced the development at a news conference in Enugu on Thursday, describing the approval as a major achievement for the institution.

The accreditation means Peaceland University can now admit students into its Law programme under the regulatory framework governing university legal education in Nigeria.

The university’s official website currently lists LL.B Law among its undergraduate programmes.

Ilechukwu said the university had fulfilled the requirements set by the Council of Legal Education following a rigorous assessment of its facilities, personnel and academic resources.

According to him, the CLE inspected key components of the programme, including teaching staff, library resources, classrooms, moot courts and clinical facilities.

He said the council’s assessment followed its visitation to the university in April 2026.

“We feel very good and proud too because it is not an easy feat to achieve. We are just three years old and this is our very first attempt, and we made it,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor said the council’s thorough approach meant that the university had to meet the required standards before receiving approval.

“They are very thorough, very difficult and very challenging too. They want to get it 100 per cent correct. They are not willing to listen to half measures,” he said.

Ilechukwu added that the university was able to satisfy the requirements and secure the accreditation.

The approval is particularly important because CLE accreditation is required for university Law programmes whose graduates are to proceed through the Nigerian legal education system.

The Council of Legal Education has repeatedly warned prospective students against enrolling in Law programmes that lack its approval, noting that graduates from unaccredited programmes are not eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School.

Explaining the significance of the accreditation, Ilechukwu said students of Peaceland University would now be able to complete their university legal education and proceed to the Nigerian Law School after graduation, subject to meeting the applicable requirements.

“Without this approval, students cannot go to Law School. Now we have it; they will be qualified to graduate, obtain their certificates and get the indexing number to proceed to Law School,” he said.

The CLE approval follows an earlier approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for Peaceland University to establish its LL.B programme.

In October 2025, the university announced that the NUC had approved five new programmes, including LL.B Law, Radiography, English Language Education, Data Science and Information Science, beginning from the 2025/2026 academic session.

The university subsequently underwent NUC accreditation exercises for several of its programmes. In May 2026, Peaceland announced that the commission had granted full accreditation to a number of its programmes following evaluations conducted during the 2025 accreditation cycle.

The latest CLE approval therefore completes a crucial regulatory step for the university’s Law programme.

Ilechukwu urged prospective Law students to consider Peaceland University, citing its academic staff, library, moot courts and other facilities.

“We are now one of the best-selling universities. We are well located in the city of Enugu. The environment is safe and protected, and we have quality faculty staff,” he said.

The Vice-Chancellor said the university currently offers about 40 programmes across more than six faculties, including Allied Health, Education, Computing, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences.

He attributed the institution’s progress to commitment, hard work, engagement and what he described as divine grace.

Ilechukwu expressed optimism that the CLE accreditation would allow Peaceland University to further expand its academic offerings while providing students from Enugu and other parts of Nigeria with access to regulated legal education.

The development also positions the university among institutions eligible to participate in Nigeria’s formal legal education pathway, with the CLE maintaining an updated list of universities authorised to admit students into LL.B programmes.
