Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested four suspected Lakurawa terrorists at a rural market in Sokoto State while attempting to sell rustled cattle, recovering livestock, cash and mobile phones.
SOKOTO – Troops of the 8 Division Garrison of the Nigerian Army have arrested four suspected Lakurawa terrorists at Darussa village market in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State while they were allegedly attempting to sell six cows believed to have been rustled.
A security source disclosed the development to journalists on Friday, saying the operation was carried out following credible intelligence as part of ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, banditry and other criminal activities in the state.
According to the source, the suspects were identified as Usman Bammo (45), Ali Usman (23), Abubakar Garba (30), and Muhammadu Dage (25).
The source said the suspects were intercepted while trading livestock suspected to have been stolen from their owners.
In addition to the six recovered cows, troops also seized two Tecno mobile phones and ₦165,000 in cash from the suspects.
The security source noted that the successful operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property through intelligence-driven operations across the North-West.
The source also praised residents for providing timely and credible information that led to the arrests, describing community collaboration as critical to ongoing security efforts.
Residents were urged to sustain their support for security agencies by reporting suspicious activities, stressing that the fight against Lakurawa terrorists, banditry and other forms of criminality remains a shared responsibility between security forces and the public.
