UTME standout Daniel Osagiobare has received a N1 million cash reward from the Edo State Government after emerging as Nigeria’s fourth best candidate and the highest-scoring candidate from the South-South region in the 2026 examination.
BENIN CITY, Nigeria — The Edo State Government has rewarded Daniel Osagiobare, the fourth best candidate in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), with a cash prize of N1 million in recognition of his outstanding academic achievement.
Osagiobare, an indigene of Edo State, also emerged as the highest-scoring candidate from the South-South region after recording 368 in the examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Presenting the award during a reception organised in the student’s honour, the Deputy Governor of Edo State, Dennis Idahosa, said the cash reward was aimed at recognising exceptional academic performance and encouraging a culture of excellence among students.
Idahosa reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to promoting quality education and creating opportunities that enable young people to realise their full potential.
“The future of our nation lies in the hands of brilliant young minds like Daniel. We will continue to celebrate and encourage excellence in every sector,” the deputy governor said.
He urged Osagiobare to remain focused on his academic journey and assured him of the government’s continued support for outstanding talents.
Responding, the award recipient expressed gratitude to the Edo State Government for the recognition and financial support, describing the gesture as a source of motivation to achieve even greater academic success.
Daniel’s father, Christopher Osagiobare, also commended the state government for recognising his son’s achievement, saying the reward would inspire more young people to pursue academic excellence and strive for outstanding performance.
