The Ekiti State Government has directed EKSUTH to provide free medical treatment for worshippers rescued from kidnappers, as Governor Biodun Oyebanji commended security agencies and President Bola Tinubu for their roles in the successful rescue operation.

The Ekiti State Government has directed the management of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH) to provide free and comprehensive medical treatment to worshippers recently rescued from kidnappers in the state.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji issued the directive following the successful rescue and release of members of the Eda-Oniyo Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), who were abducted by gunmen.

The governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday in Ado-Ekiti.

According to the statement, the governor also commended President Bola Tinubu for supporting efforts that led to the safe return of the worshippers.

Oyebanji further directed the Ministry of Health and Human Services to oversee the welfare of the rescued victims and ensure that all medical expenses incurred during their treatment are fully covered by the state government.

The rescued worshippers are currently receiving medical care at EKSUTH and will remain under close observation until they are certified medically fit to reunite with their families.

The governor praised the heads of security agencies, the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers, leaders of the Eda-Oniyo community, and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) for their contributions to the successful rescue operation.

He also cautioned individuals politicising the incident on social media, urging them instead to support ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening security and promoting peace across the state.

Earlier, the Ekiti State Police Command confirmed the rescue and release of the abducted worshippers.

Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sunday Abutu, said the victims were rescued through sustained intelligence-led operations involving the Nigeria Police Force, the military, other security agencies, the Amotekun Corps, local hunters, and the Ekiti State Government.

According to the police, the rescued victims were immediately taken to hospital for medical examination and treatment to assess their health condition and ensure they receive adequate care.

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Falade Adegoroye, commended the professionalism, commitment, and collaboration among security agencies, describing their coordinated efforts as instrumental to the successful rescue.

He also appreciated residents for their vigilance and timely provision of credible intelligence, assuring the public that security operatives had intensified efforts to track down and prosecute those responsible for the abduction.
