Heavily armed bandits have launched a deadly assault on a Niger State community, leaving three dead and multiple homes destroyed by fire before facing military retaliation.

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed a devastating morning raid by suspected bandits on Pissa village, located within the volatile Borgu Local Government Area of the state.

According to an official statement issued on Saturday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the heavily armed attackers breached the community at approximately 9:00 a.m., opening fire on unsuspecting residents and throwing the peaceful settlement into absolute chaos.

The command confirmed that three innocent individuals were brutally killed during the initial onslaught. Seeking to maximize destruction and permanently displace the local population, the marauding criminal network set multiple residential buildings ablaze, reducing several houses and personal properties to ashes before security forces could fully contain the perimeter.

The tragedy was met with a swift tactical intervention by frontline military personnel stationed in the general area, who rapidly mobilized to the scene and engaged the fleeing terrorists in a fierce gun duel.

While the counter-offensive successfully disrupted the operations of the bandits and prevented further loss of civilian lives, police authorities noted that specific details regarding casualties on the side of the attackers remain sketchy as search-and-rescue operations continue through the difficult terrain.

The Niger State Police Command reassured the public that joint security teams are actively combing the surrounding forests to track down the fleeing assailants, while pleading with local communities to remain highly vigilant and report any suspicious individuals treating gunshot wounds to law enforcement agencies immediately.
