Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the appointment of Alhaji Yerima Ibn-Mahmud as the new Emir of Ngazargamu, succeeding the late Alhaji Tijjani Ibn-Saleh.

Governor Mai Mala Buni has approved the appointment of Alhaji Yerima Ibn-Mahmud as the new Emir of Ngazargamu, filling the vacancy created by the passing of the late traditional ruler, Alhaji Tijjani Ibn-Saleh.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued on Friday, June 13, 2026, by the Acting Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Mohammed Goje, in Damaturu.

According to the statement, Ibn-Mahmud succeeds the late Emir of Ngazargamu, Alhaji Tijjani Ibn-Saleh, who died in Egypt after a prolonged illness.

Before his elevation to the throne, the new Emir served as the Turakin Ngazargamu, a traditional title he held for 16 years.

Goje noted that Ibn-Mahmud has a distinguished record of public service, having served as a member of the Yobe State House of Assembly and at various times as a member of the State Executive Council.

He also previously served as Commissioner for Livestock Development in Yobe State, a role in which he contributed to policies aimed at strengthening the livestock sector and rural development.

Congratulating the new Emir on his appointment, Governor Buni urged him to deploy his vast leadership experience toward fostering unity, peace, and development within the emirate.

The governor expressed confidence in the new traditional ruler’s ability to promote peaceful coexistence among residents and support economic growth across the Ngazargamu Emirate and Yobe State as a whole.

Buni also called on the people of the emirate to rally behind the new Emir and support his efforts to discharge the responsibilities of the throne effectively.

According to the governor, collective support and cooperation will be essential in advancing peace, unity, stability, and prosperity within the emirate.

The appointment marks a new chapter in the leadership of the historic Ngazargamu Emirate, with expectations that the new Emir will build on the legacy of his predecessor while strengthening traditional institutions and community development initiatives across the region.
