Nigerian Army troops have recorded another operational success in Zamfara State, neutralising a terrorist, rescuing three kidnapped victims, and destroying a bandits’ camp during ongoing counter-banditry operations.

Nigerian Army troops operating under Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma have neutralised a terrorist, rescued three kidnapped victims, and destroyed a bandits’ camp during a coordinated security operation in Zamfara State.

The operation, conducted on June 12, 2026, targeted criminal hideouts across communities in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas as part of ongoing efforts to combat banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes in the North-West region.

According to an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday, the troops embarked on a fighting patrol covering Birnin Saba, Yanbuki, and Sabon Garin Daudawa communities.

During the patrol, the troops made contact with armed terrorists operating within Yanbuki District in Zurmi Local Government Area, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire.

The report stated that the troops successfully neutralised one terrorist during the encounter, while other members of the group fled the area under sustained military pressure.

Security personnel recovered several items from the scene, including rifles, four magazines loaded with ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser, and an inner vest believed to belong to the fleeing criminals.

Following the initial engagement, the troops intensified their pursuit of the fleeing terrorists and advanced toward Sabon Garin Daudawa community.

According to the report, the terrorists abandoned their camp and fled upon sighting the advancing soldiers.

The troops subsequently cleared the area and destroyed the camp, denying the criminals a base for future operations and disrupting their activities within the region.

In a significant humanitarian outcome of the operation, three kidnapped victims were rescued during the clearance exercise and safely evacuated from the area.

The report did not disclose the identities of the victims but confirmed that they had been moved to safety following their rescue.

The Nigerian military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and bandit groups operating across Zamfara State and the wider North-West region.

Military authorities stated that operations would continue until criminal networks are dismantled, security is restored, and affected communities can return to normal life without fear of attacks or abductions.

The latest success highlights ongoing efforts by security forces to weaken terrorist and bandit formations while enhancing the safety of residents in some of Nigeria’s most affected communities.
