The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has issued a powerful call to Ndigbo across Nigeria to secure their PVCs, describing active voting as the only path to political equity and justice.
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has urged all Ndigbo across Nigeria who are eligible to participate in the ongoing voter registration and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
In a statement issued on Saturday in Enugu, the National Publicity Secretary of the organization, Dr. Ezechi Chukwu, emphasized that the electoral process remains the most fundamental tool for any citizen to exercise their constitutional rights and fulfill their civic responsibilities.
According to Dr. Chukwu, the strength of a thriving democracy is rooted in the active involvement of the people. He noted that political inclusion, justice, and fair representation can only be achieved when citizens are strategically positioned to influence the outcome of elections.
Consequently, he called on all Igbo sons and daughters – including the youth, women, professionals, traders, and students – to reject indifference and ensure they are captured in the current registration window provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The national publicity secretary further explained that the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, under President-General Senator John Mbata, remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting good governance and protecting the socio-economic interests of Ndigbo.
“Ndigbo must continue to play a visible and strategic role in shaping the political future of Nigeria,” Chukwu stated, adding that this can only happen if the population is fully mobilized and documented for future polls.
In addition to the call for mobilization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo appealed to INEC to ensure that the process remains transparent and accessible to everyone. The organization urged the electoral body to remove any unnecessary bottlenecks or discriminatory practices that might hinder citizens from completing their registration.
By securing their PVCs now, the group believes that Ndigbo will be better equipped to advocate for equity and progress within the framework of a united Nigeria.
