Suspension lifted as Ebonyi Governor Francis Nwifuru recalls commissioners and top officials, urging renewed discipline, loyalty, and alignment with his administration’s development agenda.
ABAKALIKI – Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has lifted the suspension imposed on several members of the State Executive Council and other top government officials, marking a significant shift in his administration’s internal disciplinary measures.
The announcement was made on Sunday during a church service held in Abakaliki to commemorate the 2026 Father’s Day celebration.
Among those affected by the earlier suspension were the Commissioner for Works, Stanley Mbam, and the Commissioner in the Ministry of Infrastructure Concession for Development, Ogbonnaya Abara. Both officials were suspended in March 2026 alongside others across various ministries, departments, and agencies.
The suspension had followed allegations of dereliction of duty, particularly amid concerns over project execution and reports of uncompleted road projects within the state.
Speaking during the service, Governor Nwifuru said the decision to lift the suspension was in recognition of the continued support and loyalty demonstrated by the state workforce.
He stated that all suspended officials had been recalled, with the exception of those in the Ministry of Lands and Survey, whose cases remain under investigation.
The governor urged the reinstated officials to recommit themselves to their responsibilities and align with the administration’s “People’s Charter of Needs” policy framework, which prioritizes service delivery and infrastructure development.
At the same time, Nwifuru issued a stern warning to political appointees who declare interest in elective positions without formally resigning from their roles. He described such actions as a breach of protocol and disrespect to the office of the governor.
He emphasized the need for discipline and focus among public office holders, cautioning against actions that could distract from governance and effective service delivery.
The governor also used the occasion to highlight the importance of fatherhood, describing fathers as pillars of strength and stability in both the family and society.
In his sermon, the officiating priest, Rev. Fr. James Nwaofoke, commended the governor for his leadership style, noting his consistency and efforts in maintaining peace within the state. He offered prayers for continued strength and guidance for the administration.
