NSUKKA, Enugu State — A politically charged atmosphere and a strong display of grassroots mobilisation defined the weekend in Enugu North Senatorial District as stakeholders staged a sweeping Nsukka Endorsement rally in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
While supporters framed the Nsukka endorsement as a vote for continuity based on “visible results,” the scale of pledges, ambitious projections, and pointed rebuttals of critics underscored the high-stakes political contest already taking shape.
A symbolic highlight of the rally at Nsukka Township Stadium was the presentation of a N102 million cheque by leaders of the zone to support Mbah’s nomination — a gesture organisers described as both endorsement and “collective ownership” of the administration’s trajectory.
Nsukka Endorsement: Results, Representation and Political Signals
Presided over by former senator Chukwuka Utazi, the endorsement drew key figures including former governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, alongside traditional leadership led by Samuel Asadu.
A motion moved by Dennis Agbo and seconded by Mark Obetta anchored the endorsement of Tinubu on federal infrastructure projects and increased South-East representation in national appointments.
“With this partnership, we who once felt excluded are now part of the mainstream of the Nigerian project,” Utazi stated, capturing a sentiment echoed by several speakers.

“Leadership is judged by outcomes. What we are seeing are measurable results. Halting this now would mean interrupting progress.”
Governor Mbah used the platform to deepen his economic messaging, outlining a plan to transform Nsukka into a production and logistics hub within a broader target of growing Enugu’s economy from about $4 billion to $30 billion in eight years.
“We are moving Nsukka from the margins to the centre of a new economic map,” Mbah said. “It will become an engine of growth, not just a district.”

A major plank of that vision is infrastructure. The governor formally flagged off the 52.2km Nguru–Lejja–Aku–Akpakume Nze–Egede–Affa–Eke road, part of a wider 70km network designed to open up rural economies.
“There is no stronger catalyst for economic activity than connectivity,” he said. “These roads are not just projects; they are economic corridors.”
He also announced plans for a 135.5km rail line linking key parts of the state, including Nsukka and Enugu metropolis, aimed at easing the movement of goods and people.
However, such large-scale projections — while applauded at the rally — will ultimately be measured against execution timelines and funding realities, a point analysts say could define public perception heading into 2027.
Ogige Market: Policy, Backlash and Reassurance
Mbah addressed one of the administration’s more contentious interventions — the remodelling of Ogige Market — acknowledging public backlash while defending the decision as necessary.
“We were sitting on a potential disaster,” he said. “Our responsibility was to prevent avoidable tragedy.”
He used the Nsukka endorsement platform to announced plans to provide seed capital to affected traders, a move aimed at rebuilding trust and stabilising livelihoods.
“It is not about politics. The people remain at the centre of every decision,” he added.

Beyond development narratives, the Nsukka endorsement rally exposed sharpening political lines. Mbah dismissed opposition rhetoric suggesting a one-term agenda, describing it as logically inconsistent.
