Governor Uba Sani has urged Nigerians to protect the nation’s democratic process from “self-serving” opposition narratives, while the Presidential Media Team highlighted massive road and rail projects transforming the North-West.

KADUNA – Governor Uba Sani has issued a stern warning to Nigerians to remain vigilant against desperate opposition elements attempting to truncate the nation’s democracy. Speaking at a state banquet in honor of the Presidential Media Team, the Governor emphasized that Nigeria’s current stability was hard-won through the sacrifices of activists, many of whom lost their lives during the military era.

The delegation, led by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, is currently on an extensive tour of Federal and State government projects across the North-West. The team expressed high praise for the “infrastructure revolution” taking place in Kaduna, attributing the progress to a synergy between President Bola Tinubu’s fiscal reforms and Governor Sani’s effective leadership.

Governor Sani, himself a veteran human rights activist, recalled the dark days of military rule, citing the martyrdom of journalists like Bagauda Kaltho and Dele Giwa. He reminded the audience that the freedom to govern and criticize was bought with blood.

“We fought for this democracy. Some of us went to detention,” Sani remarked. “At that time, many journalists lost their lives. It could have been any one of us.” He specifically commended Onanuga, Sunday Dare, and Tunde Rahman-members of the media team-for their historical roles in the struggle for constitutional governance.

Bayo Onanuga noted that the scale of development in Kaduna serves as a clear indicator that increased funding to subnational governments is yielding results. He observed that many farming communities, which had been cut off for two decades, are finally being linked to urban centers.

The team inspected several key projects, including:

  • The 35-kilometre Gadan-Gayam/Kujama Road: A vital link for 76 farming communities across three Local Government Areas.
  •  The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Specialist Hospital: A 300-bed facility designed to upgrade the state’s healthcare capacity.
  •  The Multi-billion-naira Skills Acquisition Centre: Aimed at boosting youth employability and economic empowerment.

“When I return to Abuja, I will tell Mr. President that the money his government has been giving to states is being put to work in Kaduna,” Onanuga added.

The tour also featured a technical visit to the Kaduna-Kano-Jigawa-Katsina-Maradi Railway line. Mr. Abdullahi Yakubu, the Project Desk Officer at the Federal Ministry of Transportation, revealed that the 203-kilometre Kaduna-to-Kano section has reached 68 per cent completion.

A major focus of the current work is a critical bridge connecting Rigasa to the Afaka-Mando axis. Completion of this bridge is essential for seamless connectivity toward Zaria. According to the ministry, the project remains on track for its December 2026 completion date, representing a cornerstone of the Federal Government’s plan to modernize the nation’s transport network.

Governor Sani concluded by urging Nigerians not to be swayed by narratives from those whose primary interest is gaining power, rather than national development. He maintained that protecting democracy is a collective responsibility that requires a commitment to truth and the recognition of tangible progress.
