In a significant political shift, a delegation of Rivers APC stakeholders has purchased nomination forms for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, citing his infrastructure achievements and “people-oriented” leadership as grounds for a second term.
ABUJA – A coalition of All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders and political leaders from Rivers State has officially purchased the party’s Nomination and Expression of Interest forms for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, urging him to seek re-election in the 2027 gubernatorial polls.
The delegation, led by Representative Awaji-Inombek Abiante, announced the move in Abuja on Friday. Abiante, who represents the Andoni/Opobo-Nkoro Federal Constituency, stated that the decision was a spontaneous expression of the “collective will” of the Rivers people rather than an initiative by the Governor himself.
The stakeholders justified their support by highlighting visible progress under the current administration. Abiante specifically noted improvements in infrastructure and access to previously neglected riverine communities.
“This is a leader who understands the pains of his people and responds with action,” Abiante remarked. “In places like Andoni, access was a long-standing challenge. Within months, that narrative changed. Communities once cut off are now connected and positioned to contribute meaningfully to the blue economy.”
Other achievements cited by the delegation include:
- Â The rehabilitation of the State Secretariat and other key public infrastructure.
- Â Improved welfare initiatives for civil servants and ordinary citizens.
- Â Economic revitalization strategies tailored to the state’s coastal geography.
Addressing questions on the nature of the gesture, Abiante argued that the purchase of forms by stakeholders is an established democratic tradition in Nigeria. He emphasized that the act signifies public sentiment and confidence rather than personal financial capacity.
“It is not about how deep your pocket is; it is about what the people feel,” he said. “The message from across the state is unequivocal: the Governor must heed the call to seek re-election. Rivers people are firmly behind him.”
This development marks a notable moment in the state’s political landscape as the 2027 election cycle begins to take shape. By securing the forms for Fubara, the stakeholders aim to ensure continuity of the administration’s current developmental trajectory, particularly in the areas of rural connectivity and infrastructure modernization.
