Ambition rises in Bauchi politics as Senator Shehu Buba formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election under the APC, promising fresh leadership and economic development.

BAUCHI, Nigeria – Fresh political ambition emerged in Bauchi State on Saturday as Senator Shehu Buba (APC – Bauchi South) formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.

Buba made the announcement while addressing party supporters in Gumau town, Toro Local Government Area, saying he would seek the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to him, his entry into the race is aimed at bringing fresh leadership capable of accelerating sustainable social and economic development across Bauchi State.

The senator said his decision followed extensive consultations and repeated calls from stakeholders across the state.

“I stand before you today with humility and gratitude to Allah, to formally declare my intention to contest for the office of Governor of Bauchi State in the 2027 elections.

“I seek your support, your prayers and your partnership. Together, we shall build the Bauchi of our dreams,” he said.

Buba pledged to introduce an innovative development blueprint focused on reducing poverty, tackling unemployment and improving infrastructure, education and healthcare delivery.

He criticised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration in the state, alleging that it had failed to deliver meaningful progress despite significant revenues received over the last seven years.

“In accepting the burden and task to run for the office of the governor of our dear state, we have been closely monitoring the stewardship of the PDP-led government of Bauchi State over the past seven years,” he said.

He added that available resources and revenue allocations should have translated into stronger development outcomes for residents.

Buba further stated that his team had obtained data on government revenues and project execution costs, promising to ask what he described as the right questions during the campaign season.

“We have to do better. That is why we are in the race. And for the sake of our people, the struggle to reclaim Bauchi and usher in a new era of better governance in all respects has just started,” he said.

The governorship hopeful also announced plans to unveil a broader ambition-driven blueprint for an APC administration that would position Bauchi as a leading development hub in Nigeria.

His declaration adds momentum to the growing APC contest in the state, as former Minister of Foreign Affairs Yusuf Tuggar and former NNPC Ltd. director Bala Wunti had earlier indicated interest in the Bauchi governorship race.
