Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has witnessed the defection of eight lawmakers from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the National Assembly in Abuja.

This was disclosed in a statement issued Wednesday in Kano by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, who said the lawmakers cited internal crisis within the NNPP as the reason for their decision.

The defecting lawmakers include Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, Garba Ibrahim Diso, Hassan Shehu Hussain, Idris Dankawu, Muhammad Chiroma Nalaraba, Rabiu Yusuf, Dr. Ghali Mustapha Tijjani and Muhammad Bello Shehu.

According to the statement, the event was attended by former APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Barau Jibrin.

Dawakin-Tofa quoted Yusuf as describing the development as part of the democratic process, noting that political realignments are not unusual in a vibrant democracy.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Kano State, regardless of political differences.

He also emphasised the need for unity and cooperation among elected representatives to advance development across the state.
