Abba Abubakar, son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, declaring his support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Abba was received on Monday at the APC secretariat in Yola by party executives, youth groups and supporters.
The APC Chairman in Adamawa, Mr Shuaibu Idris, described the defection as a strong indication of President Tinubu’s growing national appeal, including among opposition families.
According to Idris, Abba’s decision reflects increasing confidence in the Tinubu administration and sends a clear political signal ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The decision of the son of a leading opposition figure to publicly align with President Tinubu underscores the widening national acceptance of his leadership,” Idris said.
He assured Abba of equal rights and opportunities within the party, stressing that the APC is built on justice, equity and fairness.
The APC Youth Leader in the state, Mr Jamilu Danumma, described the defection as a major boost to the party’s mobilisation drive, noting that Abba joined with his political structure.
Danumma added that Abba had earlier registered at the APC Gwadabawa Ward before meeting ward and local government party leaders.
Also speaking, the party’s Organising Secretary, Malam Mustapha Ribadu, described the development as historic and timely, saying it further strengthened the APC’s political standing in the state.
In his remarks, Abba thanked the party leadership for the reception and pledged to work with stakeholders to strengthen the APC.
“I am ready to give my full support to the APC and work towards the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027,” he said.
