Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State is set to rejoin the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, January 26, 2026, following his resignation from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday in Kano by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature.
According to the statement, Yusuf’s return to the APC is aimed at strengthening collaboration with the Federal Government, accelerating development initiatives, improving security, and enhancing service delivery across Kano State.
Yusuf previously joined the APC in 2014, when he emerged as the party’s candidate for the Kano Central Senatorial seat after winning the primary election.
As part of the planned defection, the governor is expected to formally register as an APC member alongside 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight federal lawmakers, and 44 local government chairmen.
The statement also disclosed that Yusuf would use the occasion to officially launch the APC e-registration exercise in Kano State.
The move is widely seen as a significant political realignment that could alter the balance of power in the state ahead of future electoral contests.
