The Proprietor of Nacabs Polytechnic, David Abuluya, has warned residents of Nasarawa State to stay away from rats and maintain clean surroundings to avoid contracting Lassa Fever and other preventable diseases.

Abuluya gave the advice on Friday in Akwanga during an interview with journalists while speaking on environmental cleanliness within the institution.

He stressed that unhygienic environments pose serious risks to human health and undermine overall development, noting that disease prevention begins with proper sanitation at household and community levels.

According to him, preventing rats from accessing food and water is critical to reducing the spread of Lassa Fever.

“All food items and water should be stored in rodent-proof containers and properly covered at all times,” he said.

Abuluya, who also serves as Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee, expressed satisfaction with the sanitary condition of the polytechnic.

“As you can see, the school environment is clean. That is what I constantly emphasize to staff and students,” he stated.

He further urged strict adherence to personal and environmental hygiene, including proper waste disposal far from residential areas and sustained environmental sanitation practices.

The educationist, who is also President of the Eggon Cultural and Development Association, advised residents to avoid indiscriminate dumping of refuse, warning that poor waste management increases the risk of disease outbreaks.
