The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested a 30 year-old man, Suleman Mamuda, for allegedly killing his wife, Umaima Maidawa, aged 25, in Bayawa Village, Augie Local Government Area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Kebbi, SP Bashir Usman, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Birnin Kebbi.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Monday at about 6:30 a.m., when the suspect allegedly assaulted his wife with the wooden handle of a hoe, leading to her death.

Usman said the suspect fled the area immediately after the incident but was later tracked and arrested following investigations and credible information provided by members of the community.

“The Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar Mohammed-Hadejia, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation and prosecution,” the statement said.

The police command urged members of the public to promptly report incidents and continue to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in efforts to maintain peace and security across Kebbi State.
