Nkanu West Council Chairman John Chukwuma Ogbodo has strengthened security collaboration with the NSCDC and supported the distribution of 100 motorcycles to communities across the Nkanu East/West Federal Constituency to enhance surveillance and rapid response.
The Executive Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Council, Hon. John Chukwuma Ogbodo, has strengthened the council’s collaboration with security agencies as part of efforts to enhance grassroots security ahead of the September 26, 2026 local government elections in Enugu State.
Ogbodo made the commitment during a meeting with the Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), led by the State Commander, Etim Elijah Willie, with the Police Area Commander, Agbani, also in attendance.
The meeting focused on intelligence sharing, inter-agency coordination and strategies to protect residents, communities and critical infrastructure before, during and after the election.
Ogbodo assured the security agencies of his administration’s continued support, stressing that effective security requires sustained cooperation among government institutions and security formations, particularly during periods of heightened political activity.
He urged the NSCDC, police and other relevant agencies to maintain close coordination, share actionable intelligence and work collectively to prevent threats and ensure a peaceful, credible and violence-free election.
Willie commended Ogbodo for the development recorded in Nkanu West within the relatively short period of his administration and appreciated his support for security personnel serving in the area.
The NSCDC commander also appealed to the council for additional assistance in some critical areas of the command’s operations, while expressing optimism about Ogbodo’s prospects for a smooth second tenure.
In a related development, Ogbodo represented and assisted the member representing Nkanu East/West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Nnolim Nnaji, during the distribution of 100 motorcycles to communities across the constituency.
The motorcycles, provided through Nnaji’s intervention, were distributed to communities for use by their Chief Security Officers to strengthen surveillance, improve mobility and facilitate rapid response to security challenges at the grassroots.
Ogbodo commended Nnaji for the intervention, describing it as a practical contribution to community security and the protection of residents, while noting that stronger grassroots surveillance would complement the efforts of conventional security agencies.
Nnaji said the intervention was part of his modest contribution to supporting Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s administration and its determination to make Enugu State safer and more secure.
He stressed that governments at all levels, community leaders and security agencies must work collectively to protect lives and property and create an environment where residents can live, work and conduct their businesses peacefully.
Nnaji reaffirmed his commitment to attracting meaningful interventions and delivering tangible dividends of democracy to the people of Nkanu East/West Federal Constituency, describing the motorcycle distribution as another step towards that objective.
The security meeting and motorcycle distribution come as Enugu State prepares for the September 26 local government elections, with the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission scheduled to conduct elections for 17 local government chairmanship positions and 260 councillorship seats. The initiatives highlight the growing importance of grassroots security partnerships in advancing Governor Mbah’s broader security and development agenda and in safeguarding lives and property across Nkanu West and the wider constituency.
