Actors Guild of Nigeria, Enugu Chapter, marked the inaugural International Actors Day in Nigeria by donating food and essential items to the Enugu State Family Support Programme Children’s Home.
The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Enugu Chapter, has marked the inaugural celebration of International Actors Day in Nigeria with a donation of food items and essential materials to the Enugu State Family Support Programme (FSP) Children’s Home.
The outreach, held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, formed part of activities marking the global celebration and was aimed at supporting vulnerable children while demonstrating the social responsibilities of actors beyond their work on screen.
The 2026 celebration was organised under the theme, “Actors Beyond the Screen: Impacting Communities, Transforming Lives,” with the AGN joining actors and the wider global creative community in highlighting the contribution of performers to society.
Speaking during the Enugu activities, the Chairman of the AGN Enugu Chapter, Brown Ene, said the celebration was intended to demonstrate that actors have responsibilities beyond entertaining audiences.
Ene said the chapter commenced its activities with community service, including traffic management and environmental sanitation in parts of Enugu.
“We want to prove that beyond being actors and acting on screen, we also have responsibilities,” he said, noting that actors are also parents, grandparents, civil servants and professionals involved in different fields outside entertainment.
He explained that the International Actors Day is celebrated globally and that the 2026 edition marked its first official celebration in Nigeria. He urged actors in Enugu to participate actively in guild activities, stressing that their contributions were important to the growth of the association and the welfare of its members.
The AGN is a member of the Federation of International Actors (FIA), an international organisation representing performers and related unions across different countries.
Also speaking, the National Vice President of AGN, Southeast Zone, Clement Anigbo, said the celebration provided an opportunity for actors to make a positive impact on society.
Anigbo called for greater government investment in Nigeria’s creative industry and improved welfare for actors, particularly ageing and sick practitioners.
He also advocated reforms that would enable Nigerian actors to benefit from royalties generated from films in which they have participated, alongside increased support for film production and cinemas.
“We appeal for reforms that would enable Nigerian actors to benefit from royalties from films in which they participated,” he said.
Actress Chidimma Aneke described the celebration as a welcome development, saying it provided an opportunity for actors to appreciate one another and give back to society.
Receiving the donated items, the Coordinator of the FSP Children’s Home, Mrs Ngozi Oguejiofor, thanked the actors for remembering the children and supporting the home.
Oguejiofor said the facility welcomes assistance from individuals, organisations and philanthropists because the children require support in different areas.
She clarified that the home caters not only to motherless children but also fatherless children, orphans, vulnerable children and children with special needs, including those living with Down syndrome and cerebral palsy.
Items donated by the guild included cartons of noodles, biscuits, drinks, toiletries and other essential supplies.
The Enugu outreach formed part of a broader nationwide programme by the Actors Guild of Nigeria to mark International Actors Day through community service, outreach programmes, industry engagements and welfare initiatives. The guild had announced ahead of the celebration that the 2026 observance would focus on strengthening solidarity within the profession while highlighting the capacity of actors to contribute to communities beyond entertainment.
The activities in Enugu therefore combined celebration with community service, reinforcing the message that the influence of Nigerian actors extends beyond the screen to social development, humanitarian support and community engagement.
