An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court has remanded five defendants at the Ilesa Correctional Centre over alleged attempted murder and assault involving multiple victims in Osun State.
An Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of five persons at the Ilesa Correctional Centre over allegations of attempted murder and related offences in Osun State.
The defendants – Azeez Murtala, Sunday Friday, Fatai Olamilekan, Famuyiwa Adekunle and Tiamiyu Ismail – pleaded not guilty to a five-count charge when they were arraigned before the court on Wednesday.
Chief Magistrate Dr. Olusegun Ayilara ordered that the defendants be remanded in custody, citing the seriousness of the alleged offences.
The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Temitope Fatola, told the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offences on May 26 at a railway station in the Ayedire area of Iwo.
According to the prosecution, the defendants conspired to attack and assault six individuals identified as Tijanni Kazeem, Tijani Adebayo, Tijani Abidemi, Alao Rukayat, Popoola Opeyemi and Tijani Musilimi using dangerous weapons and charms.
Fatola told the court that the alleged offences contravened Sections 351, 86, 249(1)(d), 516 and 320(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34, Volume II, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
The defendants were not represented by legal counsel when the matter was called.
The court directed that they remain in custody pending the filing and determination of a formal bail application. The case was adjourned until August 10 for mention.
