Peter Obi Education Reform: Peter Obi unveiled his education reform agenda, promising TVET expansion, healthcare improvements and a governance roadmap aimed at transforming Nigeria.
Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, has unveiled the broad outline of his education reform agenda, promising a comprehensive policy roadmap aimed at rebuilding Nigeria through investments in human capital, good governance and economic productivity.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday, July 1, Obi said the Peter Obi education reform roadmap, which he plans to unveil in greater detail over the coming weeks and months, is designed to curb abuse in government, improve the quality of life of Nigerians and foster national unity, peace and sustainable prosperity.
Obi identified education and healthcare as the cornerstone of his proposed reforms, arguing that investment in human capital is critical to national development. According to him, “Robust human capital is indispensable infrastructure for national progress. It serves as the fundamental capital upon which daily life, economic expansion, and the delivery of essential public services depend.” He added that meaningful reforms in both sectors are necessary for Nigeria to maximise the potential of its youthful population.
The former Anambra State governor also pledged that, if elected president, his administration would establish a task force to significantly reduce the number of out-of-school children while expanding Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes to support industrialisation and economic growth. He said greater funding for TVET institutions, alongside partnerships involving government, the private sector, and faith-based educational organisations, would strengthen apprenticeship opportunities using a model similar to Germany’s dual education system. Obi further argued that Nigeria must address the paradox of rising unemployment despite a shortage of skilled labour, noting that many Nigerian entrepreneurs are establishing businesses abroad because of limited access to qualified workers. He said his administration would also prioritise character and civic education to promote trust, responsible leadership, and shared national values. Concluding the statement, Obi reaffirmed his long-standing campaign message, declaring, “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
