President Bola Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to Tunji Bello on his 65th birthday, describing the veteran journalist, administrator and FCCPC chief as a dependable ally whose decades of public service have advanced democracy, governance and consumer protection in Nigeria.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid an emotional tribute to veteran journalist, administrator and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), Tunji Bello, as he marked his 65th birthday.
In a goodwill message released on Tuesday, the President described Bello as a dependable friend, brother and long-standing ally whose commitment to progressive ideals has remained unwavering for more than three decades.
Tinubu recalled their shared role in Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement during the years of military rule, praising Bello’s courage as a journalist and his dedication to public service.
According to the President, Bello distinguished himself as a fearless editor of leading national newspapers before transitioning into government, where he built a reputation for diligence, competence and excellence.
Reflecting on his tenure as Governor of Lagos State, Tinubu said he recruited Bello into the state cabinet in 2003 to tackle the challenge of waste management.
He noted that Bello delivered far-reaching reforms within a short period, making him an indispensable member of successive Lagos State administrations, where he served as Commissioner for the Environment and later as Secretary to the State Government.
The President described Bello as a versatile public servant whose expertise spans political science, law, public administration and strategic communication, adding that he remains one of the most accomplished administrators of his generation in Lagos State.
Tinubu also commended Bello’s leadership of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, stating that his appointment aligned with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda to strengthen consumer protection and promote fairness in Nigeria’s marketplace.
He said Bello had continued to justify the confidence reposed in him, noting that the FCCPC had recorded significant progress under his leadership over the past two years.
Expressing gratitude for Bello’s contributions to the country and the progressive movement, the President prayed for continued good health, strength and many more years of service.
“I cannot thank Tunji enough for all he has done for our country and the progressive front,” Tinubu said while wishing the FCCPC chief a happy 65th birthday.
